Vote For Alan Wessman

My Bio

I'm running to give the voters in my district a choice—but not just a choice; a good choice of an independent problem solver looking after the interests of the district's residents rather than the interests of a major party. I want to protect their right to vote, to improve local public transit options, to support water conservation efforts, to prevent gerrymandering, to ease housing prices, and to preserve our beloved lands and resources.

My Key Issues

Water conservation

We had an exceptionally dry winter and every water district in the state is hurting. There is a looming health threat to most of the population of Utah if the Great Salt Lake dries up. Lake Powell is vanishing. We have to take water conservation seriously.

Restore vote by mail

The majority in the Utah legislature has been trying to end the extremely popular vote-by-mail system, based on false allegations of voter fraud despite audits showing no issues. Citizens love having the chance to research their choices and discuss them in their own homes and to return their ballots via dropbox or mail.

Reliable transit

South Utah County has been neglected in terms of transit options for many years. We have only a few bus routes and no train stops. FrontRunner is said to be coming but the schedule keeps being delayed. We love our cars and trucks but folks (especially seniors and young people) need other ways of getting around. And it wouldn't hurt to reduce traffic congestion!

Prevent gerrymandering

At the heart of our nation is the proposition that "all men are created equal." Dividing up the state based on who is likely to vote for a particular party or candidate, in order to tilt the playing field, runs against that ideal and fosters distrust in the fairness of our elections. Redistricting needs to be nonpartisan.
